Sunday AM Session
CMTC Grade 6 Sunday 9:15AM
Hari Om and a warm welcome to the Grade 6 Balavihar blog for the 2017-2018 year!
Our syllabus is based on two books listed below:
1) Mahabharata
by C. Rajagopalachari
Mahabharata is a great pillar of Dharma, written by Sage Vyasa.
The epic teaches us how to live a dharmic life, which ultimately leads to
moksha, or liberation. The story is approximately 3000 years old with
100,000 slokas and 18 chapters. Lord Brahma asked Sage Vyasa to write
down the Mahabharata, which is the content of the vedas delivered in the form
of a story. The Mahabharata is also known as "Jaya" which means
the victory of dharma (good) over adharma (evil).
The main story is a struggle between the Pandavas and Kauravas.
The theme is that where there is righteousness, there is victory.
Lord Krishna is always on the side of Dharma. The Pandavas were not
without faults, but they were ready to accept the consequences of their
actions, both good and bad.
The story symbolically represents our inner struggle between our
higher and lower natures. Our higher nature includes divine qualities
such as love, kindness, peacefulness, and sacrifice. On the other hand,
our lower nature includes anger, jealousy, greed, and other negative qualities.
We need the support of Lord Krishna to conquer our lower nature and
realize our spiritual strengths.
2) India The Sacred Land
A CMTC Houston book
We will focusing primarily on a portion of this
book, called "Saints, Our Treasure". In this section, we gain
an understanding of the goal of life revealed in scriptures and lived by
our saints. Additionally, we will delve briefly into the
first section of the book named "History and Spiritual Culture".
This section explored the knowledge of why India is a Sacred land
and what India stand for.
It is a pleasure to work with all of our
students every year. They are curious, energetic and
admirable. As parents, your commitment and encouragement to bring them
to Balavihar drives our inspiration. We appreciate your hard
work and thank you for bringing the children to Balavihar regularly.
Hopefully they do share with you the lessons they learned and activities
they did in the classroom.
